BEREA Meeting
News
-
The Bryan -Evans Retired
Educators Association had the first
meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January
13, 2015 in the social hall of Pembroke United
Methodist Church at 10:30 AM in Pembroke.
-
Paul Brooksher,
Ph.D.,
Superintendent of the Bryan County School
System spoke to the group. He was very
informative about the new schools at both ends
of the county, our currant status concerning
test scores, and the currant problems with
growth BCSS is facing in the upcoming years.
-
Jeff Barnes
presented a program about The
Red Cross.
He told us about how he became involved as a
volunteer and some of the things he has
encountered.
Mr. Barnes
also said that Bryan County has a very limited
number of members. There is only one volunteer
from the North end and they need help.
They not only go to major disasters but also
help people in our own community. For example,
house fires, homes destroyed by nature such as
a tree falling on a house or damaged by wind
or tornadoes. He handed out information on how
people can help the red cross, not only by
donations but service. Please contact Jeff or
Alice Barnes or go on line if you would like
to help.
-
Lunch
was
provided by the United Methodist Women.
There was
homemade soups, salads, cornbreads and
crackers, homemade pound cake and chocolate
Layer cake, coffee and tea!
